Philippe Calia is an independent photographer, currently based in India and available for documentary and editorial assignments. His work has been featured in various international and Indian publications such as Der Spiegel, Le Monde, Courrier International, Terra Mater, TheSunday Guardian, Open Magazine and The Indian Express . Since 2013, he is also a member and photo editor at the PIX Quarterly, New Delhi.
BIND is a collective of contemporary photographic practitioners based in India that focuses on the photobook as an art object and a specific form of expression. Through the organisation of exhibitions, talks, screenings and readings, BIND intends to promote and investigate the interface between photography, writing and design as it is shaped and composed as a bound printed work. In a context when independent and self publishing have become significant phenomena of the global contemporary photographic scene, we believe in the necessity to create a space of reflection and discussion on the subject that emerges regionally.
On the occasion of Focus Festival 2nd edition, BIND will organise a curated show, a library and a series of satellite events. The books of the curated show and library will be displayed at a site dedicated to photobooks throughout the festival.
