The Yoga House

This exhibition revisits iconic photographs of the legendary yoga master from the 1960s and 1970s.

A number of these photographs were taken in 1973 at a workshop held in Mahableshwar to document and promote yogasana techniques taught by Iyengar. A large part of this collection is illustrated in his book ‘Light of Yoga’; some photographs were autographed by Iyengar and later presented to his admirers as a token of remembrance and a few photographed anonymously.Iyengar invented his own Method of yoga called ‘Iyengar Yoga’ on which he authored several books that have been translated in 13 languages. Iyengar has also been a recipient of many prestigious awards like Padma Shri (1991), Padma Bhushan (2002) and Padma Vibhushan (2014).
