Nine Times Nine

Venue: Bombay Electric

Saturday, March 14, 4:30 – 5:30 pm: RSVP here (40 seats available)

A photographic and sculptural interpretation by Swiss artist Mirjam Spoolder as part of the Focus Photography festival 2015.

Inspired by the nine districts of Delhi, Nine Times Nine is a project which questions one’s place and hence one’s situation, in this overpopulated and multicultural world. Through the images the artist addresses the society we exist in – a society where one has to fight for a place to live and to deal with our difference; the disparity between the colour of our skins, religion, cultural backgrounds, our languages and the way we express ourselves by the way we dress.

About the artist

Born in the Netherlands, Mirjam Spoolder lives and works in Switzerland. She is a sculptor, designer and a performance artist. Her work can be described as a tension between the visual and performing arts. With her experiences in theatre, photography, fashion and art, she is able to merge the mediums perfectly into one art form. She is interested in questions about identity, especially regarding how we deal with fashion and respond to it in this overpopulated and multicultural world.

Swiss artist Mirjam Spoolder’s work ‘Nine Times Nine’, has been inspired by her residency in India. For more information on the residency programme supported by ProHelvetia – Swiss Arts Council visit www.prohelvetia.in
